Starting from November 2018, Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (NK), group company of Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd. (NKB), along with other partners, has been leading the consultancy services for the Small-Scale Water Resources Development Project (SSWRDP - Phase II) under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to enhance food security and livelihoods through sustainable water resource management. Building on the success of SSWRDP - Phase I, NK has delivered feasibility studies, detailed infrastructure design, procurement, construction supervision, and project management. The team has also prioritized institutional development of Water Management Associations, environmental and social safeguards, and technology transfer to strengthen local capacity. These efforts have enabled the development of small-scale irrigation and water facilities, boosting agricultural productivity and diversifying farmers’ incomes nationwide.

On November 29, 2025, the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Maharashi Flagship Development Sub-Project was held in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, under the Mymensingh Division. The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh, as Chief Guest. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Javed Karim, Chief Engineer, LGED; Mr. Yojiro Sekiguchi, Team Leader of SSWRDP Phase-II Project; Mr. Akira Kawai, Managing Director, Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd. (NKB); Mr. Toshimitsu Tanaka, Director, NKB; and Mr. Yusuf Omar, DGM (ETD), NKB. This inauguration marks the Maharashi Project as a national benchmark for economically viable, community-focused water resource development, underscoring Nippon Koei’s dedication to engineering excellence and sustainable progress in Bangladesh.
