The Contract Signing Ceremony for the Consulting Services of the “Detailed Design, Tender Assistance, and Construction Supervision Consultant for Chattogram – Cox’s Bazar Highway Improvement Project (CCHIP - 1)” has been successfully held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the RHD Foreign Aided Projects Building, Banani, Dhaka organized by the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh.

This major project is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ODA Loan & Government of Bangladesh and RHD is serving as the project executing agency. The Detailed Design, Tender Assistance, and Construction Supervision consultancy services will be provided by a consortium led by Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (NK), Japan in joint venture with Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd. (NKB) and other International and National consultants.

The project aims to strengthen the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar corridor by improving connectivity, logistics efficiency, and access to services. Over 72 months, the consultancy will provide detailed design, tender assistance, and construction supervision to upgrade five NH‑1 bottlenecks namely Patiya, Dohazari, Keranirhat, Lohagara, and Chakaria, enhancing capacity, safety, and regional connectivity for supporting long‑term growth and tourism.

Senior officials from RHD and the JICA Bangladesh Office joined the ceremony alongside representatives of the Consultants’ Consortium. From RHD, Mr. Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharyya, Project Director (ACE); Md. Gaus‑Ul‑Hassan Maruf, Deputy Project Director (EE, CC); and Ms. Nahid Sultana, Project Manager–1 (EE); from JICA Bangladesh Office, Mr. Hiroshi YOSHIDA, Sr. Representative, and Ms. Sakuma SHOKO, Project Formulation Adviser were present. On the consultants’ side, Mr. Naoki KUDO, Regional Managing Officer of South Asia, NK, Japan; Mr. Toshimitsu TANAKA; and Ms. Wakana SOMA from NK Dhaka Office; and Mr. Akira KAWAI, Managing Director; Mr. Rezaul Hasan, Director; & Mr. Abed Ali, Deputy General Manager (BPD) attended from NKB.

Following brief introductions and greetings between RHD, JICA officials, and the Consultants’ representatives, Mr. Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharyya, PD (RHD), and Mr. Naoki KUDO of Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. formally signed the consultancy contract. The signing marked a shared commitment to quality, professionalism, and timely delivery for this strategically important transportation improvement project, and a milestone for NK, NKB, and consortium partners in advancing connectivity and mobility across the Chattogram region.
